Education

Within the field journalism, Graduate and Trainee Schemes are very hard to find, however big TV companies like BBC, ITV and 4 Talent offer apprenticeships to over 18 year olds which offer journalism experiences as well as other experience which benefit working within their company for example, The BBC offer four different types of journalism Trainee Scheme and apprenticeships which cover different parts of journalism within the BBC. This includes the journalism Trainee Scheme where it offers aspiring journalists the opportunity to involve themselves in the BBC’s high quality training. They also offer a yearlong programme for people with disabilities (Hidden or Visible) which gives them a chance as well to enter the journalism industry. ITV offer a nationally recognised qualification in Journalism as well as other important subjects which would help others become involved with ITV. 4 Talent get applicants to work with their independent partner production companies for 6 months. They take part in training session with leading professionals.

Qualifications

To be involved in journalism, you would need a degree in journalism or have a qualification in the specific specialist subject that you want to be a journalist in also, to have 5 A*-C GCSEs including English and maths.  It is possible to get into journalism without any relevant qualifications or none at all however, it is very hard to get into journalism without any qualifications so, it is recommended to have some when getting into the field of journalism.

Personal Skills

To become a journalist, you need a good set of personal skills to help you become successful and good at your job for instance, having a genuine interest for your specialist subject is important as you would be able to explain what you’re writing about better and you’ll more than likely enjoy what you’re writing about than writing about something you have no idea in. You should be able to think outside the box and see what more information can be valuable towards what you’re writing. Other personal skills included are also very important skills into becoming a journalist.

Inter-personal skills

Inter-personal skills means the ability to communicate or interact well with other people. In the field of journalism, you are going to have to be able to talk about sensitive subjects with people sometimes and make sure you are able to deliver it well and sensibly in your writing as well as asking appropriate questions to interviewee.

Pay and conditions

The National Council for the Training of Journalist tells aspiring journalist information about jobs, courses and everything you need to find information about journalism. They have approximate figures on how much certain jobs and traineeships.

Career development

Becoming journalist can build your confidence with others. It can teach you how to lead and how to be quick on your feet. There’s many paths journalism can take you. The most common and known journalist role is a broadcasting journalist. You may see them on the news on known broadcasting channels like the BBC or ITV. Less known roles like freelancing journalism are paid for each piece of work they do and are not owned by any organisation.

Conclusion

In conclusion, being a journalist can take you to many places and help you build your confidence and communication skills in many aspects for example, it can help with talking to strangers, different writing styles for different contexts and writing skills. It is the career path I would like to take because there are so many opportunities involved and becoming a broadcasting journalist is one that I am very interested in.

She is recognized as one of the first designers to embrace computer technology as a design tool, April Greiman is also credited, along with early collaborator Jayme Odgers, with establishing the ‘New Wave’ design style in the US during the late 70's and early 80's.She heads Los Angeles-based design consultancy Made in Space. Her art combines her Swiss design training with West Coast postmodernism. April Greiman has won lots awards, which includes the Medal of the American Institute of Graphic Arts and the Chrysler Award for Innovation. She has also published several books, such as April Greiman: Floating Ideas into Space and "Something from Nothing" Her notable work includes Ron Resek Poster, P.C. World Magazine Cover and Work space '87 Poster. As a student of Armin Hofmann and Wolfgang Weingart, she was influenced by the International Style and by Weingart's introduction to the style later known as New Wave, an aesthetic less reliant on Modernist heritage. [2] She rejected the belief among many contemporary designers that computers and digitalisation would compromise the International Style; instead, she exploited pixelation and other digitisation "errors" as integral parts of digital art, a position she has held throughout her career.

Evaluation
    Introduction
The objectives of this task were to explore job roles within the publishing industry which included roles like Journalists and Art Directors, to form a team to discuss and design a   magazine. Using our research we were able to show an understanding of designers and other roles; we were able to show our understanding of the magazines layout and design conventions. Although working in a team we produced individually and thought carefully about the layout and design.

    Research
During this task, I was able to find out about different job roles within the publishing industry and examples of people who worked on them for example; researching different types of journalist, who they work for and what else they do apart from their known job role in the industry. Researching designers was a bit difficult as the internet showed more about their art work rather than information about themselves so I was searching through many art directors and art editors to find a limited amount of information about the ones I found. On InDesign, I was searching through different templates and figuring out how I could change the layout to make it my own. I thought about how magazines differentiate from other magazines and I picked different features from some magazines I saw and featured them into my magazine but changed it slightly to make it my own design. All my research was secondary research as I did not have the resources to find the research myself. Majority of my research was found on Wikipedia but some of the information was found on websites made or designed by them. In my group, we decided to make one article about a job role we were interested in and another article about a job role which is out of our comfort zone. This way, we had a variation of different job roles within our magazine.

    Planning
Planning as a group, we were very distant as we focused more on our own magazine designs then making sure all three of our magazines have features which were consistent on each page of each of our magazines. What we needed to improve on is our communication within the group so we know what to keep the same. However, the moments when we did have a conversation about the magazine we were able to feature different articles so we know we were not making articles about the same topics. I believe that with more teamwork and conversation within the group we would be about to have more consistency within our work the final finished product. I was getting used to the programme I was using [InDesign] so I was making a lot of trial and error which wasted majority of valuable time. However, I had completed a lot of research on different magazines and was able to create a basic layout for the magazine I was creating. A target for myself is to act on constructive criticism that others give me.
.
    Production
The problems I had identified it that our team did not communicate as much as we hoped and in our group it ended up being an individual project that we merged together at the end. What we had done to identify the problem is to change features of our magazine pages to be able to match pages in our magazine project. I believe that my knowledge of InDesign was limited but had expanded once I had experience on the programme. Time management wasn’t that bad it could have been improved if I was able to have the software at home and finish unfinished work at home or if I stayed after timetable hours in the library to complete unfinished work. Overall, we decided to not include one of the teammates work because they weren't consistent and were falling behind in work. We tried to get they to catch up but by the deadline their work was not sufficient enough to combine with the rest of the group. So, I would improve the way teamwork is dealt. I would make checkpoints to see where everyone is in the project and have better time management.

    Product
Our target audience for our magazines is 18+. We decided to have this age group because we were targeting people coming out of university or people looking for different career plans and paths. This means this magazine is for a niche audience. As this is directed for a niche audience major publishing companies are more likely to produce this magazine because smaller publishing companies may not have the resources to produce and publish this. I believe the magazine especially the front cover are unconventional because even though we have a person taking a picture of a sunset, they are not looking right into the camera. Usually on front covers, the model is visible and looking at the camera however; the front cover we chose to use is mysterious and they are a silhouette and we don’t know what they are taking a picture of but it is more than likely the horizon in the background. I believe that the magazine subverts to the conventions of magazines because the model on the front cover is looking away from the camera and isn't visible which isn't the norm because usually the model is very visible and looking directly and the camera. However, it also conforms to the convention because it includes things like mastheads and page numbers on each page, taglines and majority of thing a normal magazine would usually work.
